Being Los Angeles

A community engagement initiative celebrating L.A. history, heritage, and communities.

The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County are proud to be a part of a vibrant and diverse community of Angelenos, who are coming together to educate, reflect, and celebrate how L.A. residents have helped shape Los Angeles. With our archives and collections, we look back at the lives and feats of the Angelenos who came before us. With our exhibitions, programs, and partnerships, we make connections between the past and present, weaving together history with stories from people who call L.A. home today.
Here you'll find highlights from our collections that speak to the natural and cultural heritage of L.A. You'll also find ways to celebrate your own story, both with us and with our partner institutions and organizations throughout Los Angeles County.

Parks After Dark - A Partnership with Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation
The Mobile Museums programs serves the community with immersive mobile trailers that simulate an archaeological dig site and a deep sea submersible.

Over the summer, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County will bring their Mobile Museums to LA County parks for their signature Parks After Dark (PAD) series.  The PAD series activates county parks during evening hours to enjoy educational, social, and recreational activities at no cost. The Mobile Museums will visit seven parks this summer, providing local youth and their families with exciting opportunities to explore Museum collections!
