Wild L.A. Field Trip: Tide Pooling at Cabrillo Beach!
Let's go tide pooling at Cabrillo Beach!
Join the Natural History Museum on Saturday July 12 for a peek at the tidepools and animals that inhabit our intertidal zone. We will learn from Museum scientists about the small, salty critters that can be found in the tidepools and diverse habitats around us at Cabrillo Beach.
We are excited to welcome Community Partners from KFAM for this field trip! This program is exclusively for your community.
What is provided:
- Field guide
- Snacks (please bring extra snacks if you have any dietary restrictions)
- Nature explorer kits (i.e., macro lens, magnifying lens, petri dish)
- Museum experts! Our Museum staff will help guide you through safety, how to tidepool, and identification of tidepool animals we may encounter.
What you should bring:
- Sun protection (i.e., sunscreen, hat, sunglasses)
- Water bottle
- Snacks
- We recommend dressing in layers as weather conditions may change throughout the day.
- Closed toed shoes (that might get a little wet!)
Transportation:
A free school bus will be available to take participants to and from KFAM (3727 W 6th St # 320, Los Angeles, CA 90020). Please arrive promptly at 7:30 AM for check in.

Meet us at Cabrillo Beach! If you have opted to meet us there, please arrive by 8:45am. The parking area is located at 3721 Shoshonean Rd, San Pedro, CA 90731. The rate to park your vehicle is $2 per hour ($15 max per day). There may be some street parking nearby. We will be checking in at the Bath House.
Program Schedule:
7:30 AM - Check in at KFAM
8:00 AM - Bus leaves KFAM
9:00 AM - Welcome, introductions and tidepool safety
9:30 AM - Tide pooling!
11:00 PM - Art reflections and sharing
11:30 PM - Program concludes; bus departs back to KFAM
12:30 PM - Bus arrives back at KFAM
